Prospect Research is a growing field in the fundraising and non-profit sector. In the past 15 years during the tremendous growth in the number of charities, the field of Prospect Research has become one of the fundamental components of a successful fundraising organization in meeting its financial goals. Prospect Researchers are in-depth data mining analysts and profilers of individuals, corporations, and foundations which have the capacity and affinity to give major gifts to charities. Prospect Research is now taught in MLIS programs and charities regularly recruit from these programs because the skill set is similar to that of librarians.
