Since Launching in Canada, Code Clubs have provided free resources to over 250 librarians, teachers and educators to start free coding programs in their communities. Across Canadas 250 clubs the key ingredient has always been an enthusiastic librarian, teacher or volunteer that understands their community.
Countless studies have made it clear that coding is an essential skill for youth and tragically, digital literacy oppurtinities in Canada are far less available compared to other countries. As community leaders, this formidable task has fallen onto librarians with some hesitation. Obstacles such as a lack of expertise, resources, and support can make the task of equipping their communities with digital literacy skills seem insurmountable.
In this session Code Club Canada’s Lead Coordinator Ross Hodess along with librarian and club host Melanie Mulcaster will convince you that enthusiasm is all that is necessary to bring coding into your spaces. We will cut through the jargon to reveal how you use code every day and how Code Club Canada gives you the flexibility to adapt our resources to best serve your community.
You will leave excited to start making mistakes knowing our nationwide community of educators started off just like you.
