Toronto Botanical Garden’s Weston Family Library recently completed a reclassification project. The entire 10,000 volume collection was converted from a local-DDC system to standard LCC over 10 months. With a project budget of approximately $0, the process relied heavily on free, open-source software and a team of 10 volunteers. As daunting as a reclassification project may seem, the entire process can be broken down into manageable processes. Through this real-life example, session participants will learn about tools and workflows they can use to reclassify their own collections by harnessing the power of volunteers and open-source software.
