When: Friday, Feb 01 | 10:45 am - 12:00 pm

Location: TBD

Days: Friday. Event Types: Session. Sectors: Academic Libraries. Subjects: Collections and Reference.

Description:

Since the emergence of digital resources, academic reference departments have seen a radical shift away from print. And as print usage stats slump to a standstill, financial resources dedicated to these once essential research tools need to shift.

Over the past decade, our interdepartmental team – Access, Reference, Metadata/Cataloguing, and Collections Development – has been working to assess and refine (or redefine) the print reference collection. In this session, team members will discuss the stages of this process – including what tools and methods have been the primary guides for our evaluation and processing – and the challenges we have faced.

Outcomes:

Provide a model for reference monograph removal and relocation.

Provide a model for reference serial assessment, cancellation, removal and relocation.

Provide best practices for collaboration and communication with others in your professional community.”
