Description:

Starting Kindergarten is an important milestone – for children and their families. While this transition to school can be exciting, it can also be filled with nervousness, anxiety, trepidation and many questions. Our session will help ease the transition to Kindergarten for students, emPowering them and their caregivers!

Join us as we share a 6-part unit which invites Pre JK students and their caregivers to Storytime sessions in the library. We’ll share the songs, stories, games and activities we use to help children become more comfortable in the school environment, all while exposing them to the ideas of shapes, colours, letters and numbers. We’ll share all our resources – booklists, activities, forms and parent handouts (in several languages), as well as the tips and tricks we’ve learned to make each session successful. Your youngest students will start September feeling comfortable at school, happy to see their classmates & teacher and eager to start learning. Parents and caregivers will be emPowered with knowledge to make this most important transition the best it can be.

Participants will leave our session with:

– A complete 6 part unit of engaging storytime sessions

– Handouts (in several languages) for families to reinforce the learning at home

– Tips and tricks for implementing a successful Pre JK storytime in your library
