Description:

A newly minted Children’s Librarian endeavoured their first storytime imagining an idyllic experience and instead faced total chaos – children running around, hitting each other, tears and cotton balls flying everywhere. How do you manage?

Children’s Librarians are often promoted into managerial roles early in their careers because they cultivate a strong skill set of managing people who don’t get along (children are people!), motivating staff to try new things, event management, budgeting, and always cultivating an ambiance of fun and playfulness that naturally extends into their departments.

In this session, you will learn how your daily tasks as a Children’s Librarian are training you to become an effective leader. You will learn from 2 Library Managers how their experiences as Children’s Librarians provided them with a skill set that is needed in library leadership today.
