The Smart Cities phenomenon has gained momentum all over the world. The Sidewalk Labs initiative to design a district in Toronto’s Eastern Waterfront and aim to make Toronto the global hub for urban innovation is the focus of much attention. The 2018 Canadian Smart Cities Challenge had cities across the country working to develop submissions for the $50 million at stake. Many cities pulled together diverse groups, including libraries, to help craft their submission that featured innovative uses of technology to help solve civic problems. Hear how Toronto Public Library has been involved with both, and learn more about the issues that should inspire all libraries to step up to collaborate with partners in this emerging area.
