Over the last few years, Oshawa Public Libraries has developed a strategy to work with customers who are experiencing mental health issues, homelessness, and other challenges, while ensuring measures are in place for staff security and safety. Initiatives include working with community partners, revising relevant policies & procedures, staff training, public programming, and implementing changes to our physical facilities. The positive results from this comprehensive approach can be used by public libraries as a framework to customise their own strategies for serving everyone with empathy and professionalism.
