Description:

Creative Technology, : When Technology, , Hardware, and Code Intersect with Art, Fashion, and Design.

Traditionally, the fields of STEM are often placed in opposition to creative fields including fine art, fashion, and design. However the role of “Creative Technologists” has emerged not only for hobbyist creators, but as a sought-out role in leading tech companies. From fashion designers who switch between writing code and stitching to artists who paint in VR and write custom projection mapping software, new projects and initiatives are blurring the lines between technology and creativity. This talk will explore the origins of the creative technology movement, the online and offline communities that fuel it, and how information and skills are sourced and shared within the community. School libraries are at the intersection of the arts and sciences. The design process, and learning about the necessary failure inherent in prototyping are all part of the conditions necessary for creativity to flourish. School libraries are safe places for this exploration.
