This session will look at the three year journey the Edmonton Public Library has gone on to connect with their local writing community and how community consultation continues to be the foundation for Capital City Press.

Learn how EPL provides an holistic approach to supporting the writing community, from creation to production to consumption of local writing, through events such as Indie Author Day and the Young Writers’ Conference, to workshops and mentoring programs offered by our Writer in Residence and Spotlight Writers, to promoting local writers’ work at the Capital City Press Festival.

Attendees will learn about the tools used in the community consultations EPL has run, as well as the ongoing process of project planning and evaluation that the team uses to build Capital City Press initiatives.

Attendees will:
1. Discover strategies to connect with the writing community
2. Gain new ideas to host writing events at your library
3. Learn how libraries can amplify what’s already happening in the community
