In order to better define our future we must know and take lessons from our past. In this session we will learn how the public library movement started in Ontario, the successes and pitfalls that have been faced, seminal figures in public library development, and the evolution of legislation regulating public libraries in Ontario. This session will give background for other sessions presented at this conference on colonization and decolonization of public libraries; and the implementation of the recommendations of the Oka Royal Commission and the calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
