When a volunteer from the Patient Library was hired as a Library Technician (LT) the relationships of those associated with the library were altered. The Information Specialist (IS) who oversees the library was now a college rather than a supervisor. In addition because of the LT’s volunteer experience there was an increased expectation of the job she could do. The LT also had increased expectations of the job they could do, but they also had to manage new work responsibilities. In this session both the LT and the IS will identify the benefits and challenges their shifting roles presented, and share how they managed expectations and overcame the challenges.
