When: Wednesday, Jan 30 | 10:30 am - 11:10 am

Location: TBD

Days: Wednesday. Event Types: Session. Sectors: Public Libraries. Subjects: Inquiry, Library Buildings and Space, and Literacy.

Description:

Outdoor classrooms have become a focus for elementary schools. Many classrooms are taking the learning outside. So why not take your library learning commons outdoors as well!

Our session will explore how teacher librarians can take their library program outdoors in all seasons. We will share ideas and activities, appropriate for primary and early junior children, that integrate literacy, inquiry and STEAM/makerspace initiatives. Connections to 21st century competencies as well as children’s mental health and well being will also be shared. Opportunities will be given to explore some activities through hands-on experiences, to share ideas and connect with others during this session. Activities and resources shared can also be modified for public library programs.

Due to time, location as well as outdoor space constraints, all activities will be run indoors for this session. All we ask is that participants bring their imagination to pretend they are outdoors!
