NIGHT VALE Welcome To Night Vale

Welcome To Night Vale: “The Librarians”

OLA is proud to bring you a performance of the “#1 Podcast That You’ve Never Heard of Before”.

WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE is a twice-monthly podcast in the style of community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, featuring local weather, news, announcements from the Sheriff’s Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark hooded figures with unknowable powers, and cultural events.

The Night Vale Public Library is run by a group of malevolent librarians which the Night Vale citizens are encouraged to be cautious of. In 1993, “an unchecked librarian population resulted in the loss of many innocent and screaming book lovers.” To this day they are not trusted, and it can be assumed that they are the main cause of the establishment’s fatality rate resting “well above the national average for libraries.” [Source: Night Vale Wiki]

The bi-monthly show is the genius creation of Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, two men who deserve mounds of kudos for taking what could have been deemed a forgotten medium — the scripted radio shows — and making it sexy again.

In an interview with NPR, Fink said that he “came up with this idea of a town in that desert where all conspiracy theories were real, and we would just go from there with that understood.”
In July 2013, Welcome to Night Vale became the most downloaded podcast on iTunes. In October 2013, they began presenting live shows which continue into 2014 with a tour featuring the script they will perform for us live “The Librarians”.
