Susan Thompson has worked as a programmer at the Burlington Public library for 13 years, developing and implementing programs for children, and computer instruction for adults. Coming from an educational background in Biology, when the opportunity arose to advocate that libraries grow food, she immediately set to work to make it happen. The aquaponic garden project at the Burlington Public Library has been the result of those efforts. She hopes to encourage libraries and municipalities to create infrastructure that allows public spaces to be used to grow food, as a way to create food security and sovereignty within communities.
