Volunteering for Super Conference:

Who’s Who & What’s What

The annual OLA Super Conference is attended by over 4500 delegates – this means that our volunteers are vital to the existence and success of the conference. Here are the ways you can get involved in the conference:

Super Conference Planning Team

This team consists of two representatives from each division. This is a two year term with one incoming and one seasoned member sitting on the planning team each year. The Super Conference Planning Team meets a few times a year both in person and via teleconference.  Recruitment takes place in January so that you can attend your first planning meeting while you’re attending the conference! If you’re interested please let your division planner know, or send your questions to Emily at OLA.

Session Convenors

Session Convenors are conference registrants who volunteer to introduce and convene sessions for their division. Convenors are secured in November leading up to each conference and are recruited by the Planning Team. Watch for the call through OLA social media and email blasts in early November.

Conference Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of the Super Conference. They come prepared for anything – ranging from directional duties to Makerspace assistance, crafting to videography – and in exchange, they get an opportunity to network and gain hands-on conference experience. Volunteers must be current students in a library-specific program, or recent graduates (2017 or later) of a library program who are currently job-seeking or underemployed.  Sign-up opportunities will be posted in early December. Current OLA members who volunteer get the Conference for free!

Career Centre

Experienced members who are registered for the conference are recruited as volunteers to critique resumes, conduct mock interviews, and career mentor on site at the conference Career Centre. The form for Career Centre volunteers is posted on the Career Centre page.
