Toronto Public Library:
North York Central Library Renovation
Service has been restored to the 30-year-old North York Central Library, Toronto Public Library’s largest circulating branch. Designed by DSAI, the project doubled available public seating and inviting visitors in to this exciting, vibrant space.
This includes the Circulation/Browsery department, Children’s and Teen Zone, the Creation Loft (including a Digital Innovation Hub and Fabrication Studio); the Language, Literature and Arts department, and the Business/Science & Technology department.
The transportation-themed KidsStop is a fully accessible literacy-rich, tactile learning environment for children and their families to learn and play together. The first Discovery Area for children aged 6 to 12 is where children can create designs on the Everbrite Wall, have fun constructing a ball run on the magnetized wall, or build a roller coaster track.
The second floor features a Digital Innovation hub; ELearning suite and TPL’s first fabrication studio; a unique creation and learning space that offers sewing, serger and embroidery machines to create textile projects and a vinyl cutter for artistic projects.
The third and fourth floor offer access to rich collections and a variety of seating; group and single use study rooms.

Markham Public Library:
Aaniin Community Center & Library
Aaniin means “hello” or “welcome” in Ojibway, and this community centre invites diverse peoples of all backgrounds to collaborate, share knowledge and celebrate Indigenous traditions and values.
Aaniin Community Centre & Library is a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of southeast Markham. The 122,000-square- foot, fully accessible LEED Gold building, designed by Perkins+Will, sits on more than 13 acres of land. The library branch is 20,000 sq ft. with the following services and spaces:
• Makerspace with 3d printers, 3d scanner, laser cutter, and tools for tinkering
• Digital Media Lab featuring computers with creative software for music, podcasts and movies, scanners, electric keyboard, microphones, video cameras, digital drawing tablets and virtual reality equipment (Oculus Rift)
• Creation Studio to explore painting, crafting, sewing and textile arts
• Business Hub co-working space featuring video and teleconferencing system, meeting space and online resources
• Computer training room with programs that develop computer and digital technology skills
• Teen area with individual and group study rooms and a comfortable lounge area with TV and gaming options
